Sushi Day

Emi is stirring the vinegar into the rice, while Jun displays the Inari that we made. The kids thought it would be funny if they filled one of the aburage with wasabi, hidden by the rice, and try to make Suzuki-sensei (their homeroom teacher) eat it.
The boys and I (not photographed) watch as the girls show us how to top the rice in a pretty fashion.
Before itadakimasu-ing.
Tomoyasu (Tom), Ryosuke (Ryo), Yuki, Jun, Emi, Sayaka.....posing with ohashi

Today, we made chirashi zushi. Yuki brought the canned tuna, Tom (Tomoyasu) brought the vinegar, Sayaka-wasabi, Emi-aburage, Jun-soy sauce, Ryosuke-ikura, and I brought the rice and fish. Sayaka and Emi were the leaders of the group and showed us all what to do. But when I told the boys that they looked like pros--they admitted to never making sushi before. "Then why do you cut the fish so well?" I asked. "Because we imagined it!" This made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

Here is the link to a short video watching the girls top the rice with decorative fish. Deerhoof's "Panda" plays in the background.
